AMAC-UK was founded in May 1993 at Green College, Oxford, at a meeting which attracted some 70 former graduates as well as friends of Croatian Universities. This inagural meeting came as a result of an initiative which started late in 1992 by a small, enthousiastic group of alumni centered around Oxford and London. Since the inagural meeting, the annual gathering is traditionally held on the second Sunday in May, always at the same location at Green College, Oxford, followed by a festive lunch for members and families. From 2003, the annual meeting has moved from the Green college, across Woodstock Road, into St Anne’s College.
On 22nd November 1996, AMAC-UK Educational Trust was registered as a charity under number 1059392 with the Charity Commission in London. This process has formalised charitable activities which AMAC-UK has been performing since its inauguration in May 1993, i.e. advancement of education in Croatia by providing financial assistance to students, by awarding annual travel grants for students and researchers and by donating books and other items to universities in Croatia.
